<p>The aim of the standard is to support the widespread adoption and use of Shared Decision Making with an information standard which:</p>
<ul>
<li>Defines what should be recorded in a person's record about a shared decision</li>
<li>Supports ongoing discussions and provides an audit trail</li>
<li>Supports good professional practice as set out in the General Medical Council (GMC) and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance on Shared Decision Making.</li>
</ul>
